Chapter 6 - The Invoice That Shouldn't ExistWhitmore Development Group had been built by Grant and his late wife, NORA.

After Nora's death, Grant had allowed increasing control to pass to his longtime CFO, OWEN PRICE.

Owen was more than an employee.

Grant considered him family.

That trust made what followed more dangerous.

A review of Crescent Restoration revealed repeated payments below Grant's personal approval threshold.

One payment meant little.

Seventeen payments totaled nearly a million dollars.

Another consulting company, HARBOR FIELD CONSULTING, had received hundreds of thousands more.

Rosa recognized that name too.

She remembered seeing it on documents Celeste stored in red folders inside Grant's office.

At the same time Owen was pressuring Grant to sell a valuable company property called BELLWETHER COMMONS.

The offered price was nineteen million dollars.

MIRIAM SONG, trustee of the shares Nora had left to Ella, refused to approve it.

Her independent appraisal valued the property almost eleven million dollars higher.

Then Miriam discovered a document claiming Grant had already authorized the sale.
