Chapter 15 - The Apology Rosa Wouldn't AcceptGrant requested a meeting with Rosa.
Lydia attended.
Grant apologized for firing her.
For believing Celeste.
For striking her.
For allowing false documents to destroy her reputation.
Rosa listened.
Then she asked the question he feared most.
“You knew how much I cared about Ella. Why was it so easy to believe I would hurt her?”
Grant had no good answer.
Because Celeste was his wife.
Because Rosa was an employee.
Because fear had made him choose the version of events that required the least thought.
Rosa told him an apology did not restore a job, a reputation or the moment when Ella watched her rescuer being punished.
Grant accepted that.
He issued a factual correction confirming that Rosa had helped Ella and that he had not witnessed Rosa causing any danger.
Rosa did not forgive him.
