Chapter 4 - Eighteen Minutes Without a CameraGrant eventually decided to review the mansion's security system.

The dedicated pool camera should have recorded everything.

It had not.

At precisely the period surrounding Celeste's actions with the orange vest, the camera had been offline.

The interruption lasted eighteen minutes.

Grant asked the security coordinator, MARTIN HALE, who had authorized it.

Martin hesitated.

“Mrs. Whitmore.”

Grant stared at him.

Celeste had requested a temporary “privacy adjustment” two days earlier.

The technician's email showed that she knew exactly when the pool camera would stop recording.

Even worse, she had specifically asked whether any other exterior cameras could see the pool.

The answer had been no.

Grant confronted her.

Celeste dismissed the timing as coincidence.

She reminded him that Rosa and Maya were disgruntled employees.

She told him he was allowing guilty women to manipulate him.

Grant wanted to believe his wife.

But for the first time, belief required effort.
