Chapter 18 - Daniel and Michael

The warehouse problem reached settlement.

Hartwell Capital’s security interest was challenged because the trust agreement restricted Michael’s ability to pledge his share.

Litigation would be expensive.

A negotiated solution emerged.

Michael repaid part of the business loan through asset sales.

Hartwell released claims against the warehouse trust.

Michael lost money.

A lot.

He sold his luxury car.

Closed one office.

Laid off nobody if he could avoid it.

Daniel offered to buy part of Michael’s company.

Michael refused.

“Then I'll owe you.”

“You already do.”

“Exactly.”

They laughed for the first time in months.

Michael later proposed something else.

Sell the warehouse.

Split proceeds.

Daniel hesitated.

Their father had bought it.

Ethan asked:

“Do either of you actually want it?”

They looked at each other.

No.

They had spent years fighting over a building neither loved because it represented their father’s approval.

The property was eventually listed.

Not under pressure.

Not to pay Hartwell immediately.

Because both brothers chose.

That distinction became healing.
