Chapter 17 - Jason’s Choice

Jason was offered money.

Not directly.

A media company contacted his mother.

Exclusive rights to the video.

$75,000.

Jason stared at the number.

His mother made forty-six thousand a year.

Seventy-five thousand could clear debt.

Replace their car.

Build savings.

But selling exclusive rights could complicate evidence use and turn Ethan’s humiliation into entertainment.

They called Rebecca.

Legally, options existed.

Ethically, Jason struggled.

Ethan surprised him.

“Take it if you need it.”

Jason stared.

“You want your trash video in documentaries forever?”

“No.”

“Then why?”

“Because I don't want to control you because it happened to me.”

Jason’s mother eventually declined the exclusive deal.

Instead, once legal restrictions eased, they licensed limited news use through counsel and placed proceeds into a college account and a donation to a student legal-aid fund.

Jason kept ownership.

The choice was theirs.

Power handled differently.

That mattered.
