Chapter 14 - Mrs. Harper Turns on Her HusbandClaire Harper discovered Dean had prepared an affidavit.

In it, he described her as:
An educator who may have independently overreacted.
Independently.
She read the word four times.
Dean intended to save himself.
Voss intended to save Voss.
The district intended to save the district.
Claire had spent years believing proximity to power made her powerful.
Now she understood.
She was disposable.
She hired separate counsel.
Then produced financial records.
Harper Community Consulting had received Voss-linked foundation money.
Dean controlled the accounts.
Claire received household benefit.
She admitted referring certain families.
Denied understanding the full arrangement.
Investigators found texts contradicting part of that denial.
But her cooperation exposed something larger.
Voss had paid a “community outreach” retainer to Harper Consulting while Dean negotiated waterfront acquisitions.
Claire’s student profiles sometimes included parental employment and financial stress.
Not every profile reached Voss.
Some did.
Jayden’s did.
His family information had moved from classroom observations into a business pressure file.
That was the bridge investigators needed.
School.
Family.
Property.

Money.
Connected.
