Chapter 13 - Dean Harper’s MistakeDean Harper insisted he had no role in his wife’s classroom behavior.

Then district investigators recovered texts.

CLAIRE:

Cole kid is exactly like you said.

DEAN:

Meaning?

CLAIRE:

Protective about the parents.

DEAN:

Don’t do anything stupid.

CLAIRE:

Relax.

Then, two days later:

CLAIRE:

He finally snapped.

DEAN:

What happened?

CLAIRE:

Call me.

That was after the classroom incident.

Dean had not instructed the punishment in writing.

But another message connected him to Voss pressure.

DEAN to VOSS:

Claire may have created an issue at school. Could complicate leverage strategy.

Voss replied:

Contain it.

Rachel stared.

“Leverage strategy.”

Owen asked:

“Enough?”

“Enough for civil discovery to get uncomfortable.”

Then Dean made his mistake.

During a settlement discussion, he said:

“You need to consider the condition of your business.”

Owen leaned forward.

“How do you know the condition of my business?”

Dean froze.

Nathan had shared debt information with Voss.

But Dean had just admitted access.

Rachel smiled slightly.
