Chapter 22 - The Policy

Thomas's first operational order addressed the rule that started everything.

But he did not simply write:

AMERICAN FLAGS ALLOWED.

Instead:

Guests may carry lawful personal symbols unless they materially disrupt safety, service, or a properly permitted private event. Staff may not selectively exclude guests based on nationality or assumed viewpoint.

Evelyn approved.

Quan read it twice.

“You wrote a whole paragraph because of four tiny flags?”

Thomas smiled.

“I employ lawyers.”

Quan laughed.

Then Thomas asked:

“Why do you still work here?”

Quan hesitated.

“I thought you would fire me.”

“You apologized.”

“I still treated you badly.”

“Yes.”

Quan nodded.

Thomas continued:

“Don't ever tell another guest they're not important enough to be treated with respect.”

Quan looked down.

“I won't.”

Thomas offered his hand.

Quan shook it.
