Chapter 16 - Sarah Leaves the Room

Thomas became obsessed.

Depositions.

Financial models.

Old contracts.

He canceled dinner twice.

Missed Noah's school performance.

Sarah finally placed his laptop on the floor and closed it.

“Enough.”

“This matters.”

“So do we.”

“David tried to steal—”

“I know what David did!”

Thomas stopped.

Sarah's eyes filled.

“You keep saying you don't want revenge while spending every waking hour imagining how to make him lose.”

Thomas looked away.

“You know what Noah asked me?”

“What?”

“Whether Mr. David is our enemy.”

That hurt.

“No.”

“Then stop acting like this is a war.”

Thomas sat.

Sarah pointed toward the family photograph.

“You said you wanted your restaurant back.”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

He didn't answer.

“To prove you matter?”

“No.”

“To punish David?”

“No.”

“To protect the employees?”

“Yes.”

“Then make decisions that look like that.”

She left the room.

Thomas stayed alone.

For the first time, he understood the humiliation outside Imperial Lotus had awakened something ugly.

David told him he did not matter.

Thomas had spent months trying to prove he did.
