Chapter 7 - What Children NoticeInvestigators interviewed Maisie carefully.

Not like police interrogating an adult.

No repeated questions.

No attempts to make her provide a dramatic story.

She remembered:

Scissors.

Crying.

“Sit still.”

Being told to say she did it.

Enough.

A visiting ranch employee’s daughter had been in the playroom that afternoon.

She remembered “Maisie crying.”

Another child remembered “hair on the floor.”

Nothing more.

That was fine.

The strongest evidence remained Ortiz’s video.

Investigators also learned Kendrick had sent the usual afternoon babysitter home eleven minutes before the haircut.

She said household duties were finished early.

That left her alone with Maisie.

Not proof of a long-planned haircut.

But it made privacy deliberate.

Kendrick had assumed a four-year-old was easy to control.

She could simply create the adult version afterward.

That assumption failed.

Because children may not have legal vocabulary.

But they see.

May you like

They remember.

And sometimes an adult nearby chooses to take them seriously.
