Chapter 21 - The Playroom Opens AgainFoster Ridge did not close itself off from children.

The ranch had always hosted employee family days and small youth horsemanship weekends.

For almost a year the playroom remained unused.

Then Declan reopened it.

New craft storage.

Rounded children’s scissors kept where adults could supervise.

Clear household policies.

No dramatic plaque.

No room named after Maisie.

Ortiz remained at the ranch.

People started calling him a hero.

He hated it.

“I looked through a window.”

Laura corrected him:

“And then you didn’t look away.”

That was the meaningful part.

The ranch adopted a simple staff policy:

See it. Record it. Report it.

Ortiz approved.
