Chapter 8 - Mia Stops Going to LunchMia stopped entering the cafeteria.

She ate in the library.

Then the counselor’s office.

Then nowhere.

David noticed the unopened lunch containers.

“You have to eat.”

“I do.”

“When?”

“School.”

“You bring everything home.”

Mia stared at the refrigerator.

“I’m not hungry there.”

David understood.

He arranged therapy.

Mia hated the idea.

“I’m not crazy.”

“I didn’t say you were.”

“Therapy means—”

“Therapy means somebody who knows more than I do.”

That convinced her.

Dr. Evelyn Price never asked Mia to relive the tray immediately.

They talked about control.

Crowds.

Sounds.

Food smells.

Mia confessed:

“I hate mashed potatoes now.”

Dr. Price smiled gently.

“That’s inconvenient.”

Mia laughed.

The next week, she entered the cafeteria with Ethan.

Stayed twenty-three seconds.

Left.

Progress.

May you like

Not dramatic.

Real.
