Chapter 13 - Emily’s Anger Changes Shape

Emily kept dreaming about tomato sauce.
Not Mrs. Harrison.
The smell.
She would open lunch and suddenly feel sick.
Rachel stopped packing pasta.
Then Emily said:
“No.”
“What?”
“Pack it.”
“You sure?”
“No.”
Rachel smiled slightly.
“Okay.”
The next day Emily opened spaghetti.
Her stomach tightened.
She took one bite.
Then another.
By the fifth bite, she was hungry again.
Tiny victory.
Dr. Wallace asked:
“What do you want to happen to Mrs. Harrison?”
“Lose everything.”
“Why?”
“So she feels it.”
“Feels what?”
“Humiliated.”
Emily stopped.
That sounded familiar.
Mrs. Harrison had humiliated her because she wanted Emily to feel small.
Emily did not like the mirror.
“So what do you actually want?” Wallace asked.
Emily thought.
“I want her unable to do it again.”

Different goal.
Accountability instead of replication.
