Chapter 22 - Ethan Chooses the Stable
Therapy brought Ethan back to opening scene.
Dr. Lewis asked:
“What place scares you most?”
“Stable entrance.”
“Not inside?”
“No.”
Interesting.
The doorway.
Where Vanessa stood.
Where Ethan had to cross threshold under command.
Choice taken.
So exposure began there.
He stood at entrance.
Didn't go in.
Next week:
One foot over threshold.
Then back.
Next:
Two steps.
Then left.
No pressure.
Daniel did not watch.
Monica did not watch.
Eventually Ethan entered alone.
Walked between Copper and Willow.
Stopped exactly where he had stood crying.
Breathing changed.
Then settled.
He said aloud:
“I choose to be here.”
Corny.
Useful.
Willow sneezed.
Ruined moment.
Ethan laughed.
