Chapter 24 - Just a HaircutThe haircut lasted fifty minutes.

No reporters.
No school representative.
No symbolic foundation event.
Just Renee.
Emma.
Vincent.
At one point Vincent checked his email.
Emma noticed.
“You’re not watching.”
He looked guilty.
“Should I?”
“No.”
Then smiled.
“Good.”
Trust.
Renee blended the once-damaged side without erasing its slight asymmetry.
Emma liked it.
When finished, she ran both hands through her hair.
“Perfect.”
Vincent started:
“You look—”
Stopped.
Emma raised an eyebrow.
He corrected:
“What do you think?”
“Perfect.”
“Then perfect.”
Better answer.
Outside the salon, Vincent lifted his phone.
Then stopped.
“Picture?”
Emma smiled.
“You learned.”
“Slowly.”
“Yes.”
She stood beside the salon window.
“Okay.”
One photo.
CLICK.
No hidden evidence.
No teacher trying to confiscate the phone.
No desperate SEND.
Vincent showed her.
Emma smiled.
“Keep it.”
“Post?”
“No.”
“Okay.”
The photograph belonged to the family.
Not an investigation.
That night Emma found Owen’s old message thread.
Years earlier:
Sent it to your dad. You’re safe.
She texted him a new photo.
Got haircut. On purpose this time.
Owen replied:
Looks good. Also we lost 8–3. Terrible day.
Emma laughed.
Life.
Then she opened the box containing legal copies.
Owen’s original evidence photograph remained inside.
She looked once.
Then closed it.
Official files still existed.
She did not need to destroy history.
She also did not need to look again.
Tomorrow was Chapter 25.

And the ending would not happen in court.
It would happen in an ordinary classroom with a phone placed openly on a desk.
