Chapter 13 - Laura’s FailureDirector Laura Bennett met Declan privately.

“I almost believed her.”
“Who?”
“Kendrick.”
Declan said nothing.
Laura continued.
“When she told me Maisie cut her own hair, I thought it was possible.”
“Because she’s four.”
“Yes.”
“And because Kendrick is an adult.”
Laura looked ashamed.
“I didn’t know about the video.”
“That isn’t the point.”
“No.”
She nodded.
“I should have asked Maisie before I started managing the problem.”
Declan recognized himself.
Same flaw.

Child credibility requiring proof.
Briarwood changed its incident policy.
Children were not treated as full legal witnesses.
But their accounts had to be documented before staff narratives were finalized.
No employee could write the only record of an incident involving their own alleged misconduct.
